Yet another newbie message
Just a bit of an intro to say 'hi' - My wife and I, plus two kids (girl of 9 & boy of 3), had a great time at Tewkesbury at the weekend. We've been interested in getting involved in the living history side of things for a long time and have just got a few bits of costume from an old friend. The clothes in question are late C14th - a couple of cotehardies and a couple of kirtles - and are much finer than we'd been expecting, so it looks as though we'll be aiming at being a reasonably well-off merchant family. We're in the Salisbury area (S Wilts/S Hants/Dorset borders) and would welcome any pointers to family-friendly groups roughly in our area.
Cheers all!

Hi Jemmo,
The Company of Chivalry had a small contingent at Tewkesbury this year. Our period is C14th, early or late depending on event, and are based in the Bristol, Bath and Wiltshire areas.

It's a fair cop.Marcus Woodhouse wrote:REALLY late 14th century if they were at the Battle of Tewkesbury!
We've been going to Tewkesbury for many years despite it not being our period. WotR does tend to dominate the medieval battle scene in England and if we want to do fight someone other than ourselves we do have to go up a century or so.

First thing that jumps out is -
Dicky Two reigned 1377 - 1399, way before the WOTR period they quote.four plays chronicling the Wars of the Roses (1455-1485), Richard II, Henry IV Parts 1 and 2 and Henry V
Re: Yet another newbie message
Yup, even Henry 5 dies in 1422, 30+ years before.
I think he's been researching his article on wikipedia:

Unless you take the viewpoint that the WOTR should be traced back to the usurpation of Henry IV which not only established a precedent for getting rid of kings you don't like BUT also established a rival Plantgenent dynasties.
However I suspect this was not the case.

Being charitable I would say that this Alan Morrison bloke is probbally a English Lit graduate whose knowledge of history is sadly lacking.

Thanks all for the replies and PMs (before the thread erred off to Wiki-land). We need to get our heads together a bit
and decide what we're looking for exactly, and will certainly be talking to some of you to see if you can help!
