Polish Cavalry

Postby STEENIE » Sat Feb 05, 2011 9:27 pm

Here are few photos of a Polish Cavalry group whom I am proud to ba associated with. They completed a 1000 Km campaign ride through Poland including serious river crossings. In the photos shown you can see them crossing the River Bug.

This is one very professional living history cavalry group, with a standard of riding that would be high enough to be 'real'. Infact, I defy you to say they are not without me telling you.

So true.

In the past, with this group we have covered 100 Km in a day!!! Great fun if testing.

One group (another not this one), rides 300 Km every year just to get to a weekend event. Then they ride back.

Very professional. True Volunteer Cavalry

Izabela,

I can probably do better than that. On the weekend before Easter (15/16/17th of April), there will be a very large get together of Volunteer Cavalry at Poznan, run buy the 15 pułk ułanów poznańskich. It is called Lancer Days, Dni Ulana. A weekend of serious cavalry competition which is held at the Hipodrom at Wola, just outside of Poznan. There is also a big reenactment event covering military of the C20th including both world wars. The guys in the photos will be there including most of the Polish Volunteer Cavalry.

I will be at Poznan that weekend lurking around Wola too :D

I think the cost of a return trip to Poznan from Stansted with Ryanair, for that weekend is about £60 all in (there done my bit as a tour guide ).

Does that help?

Many thanks for that! - I am not so much interested myself, not my period really, plus will be enjoying a hunting break in Devon at the time. My father would most likely be running a horsey event near Augustow at that time too ( http://www.lesnygalop.pl/), will have to contact him, you never know, he may be free this weekend! the ulan thing is precisely what he is interested in, it would be great if he could tear himself from his duties:-)

do the guys there have a website for him to look at?

The Unit that are in the pics are Pulku 3 Strzelcow Konnych. Here is a You Tube of them, doing things on the local playing field:

Here is the web site for the 15 pułk ułanów poznańskich who are obviously the Unit at Poznan:

Teuton,

What a fantastic picture!!!! I bet you are very proud of him!!

Do you have anything to do with the current volunteer cavalry in Poland?

I don't know about it being a paradox. In the last century, you could have been borne, bred and died in the same spot, never moving more than a few Km and have ended up being Polish, German, Russian and Lithuanian in one life time.
