Elizabeth Wydeville:the Slandered Queen.
By Arlene okerlund, Tempus Publishing, ISBN 0752433849. I enjoyed this even more than the last biography of Elizabeth I read. Like Richard III Elizabeth Wydville and her family are really amongst the most maligned characters in British history. I blame that teacherous old git Warwick by the way.

Just re-read again in preparation for being confrounted by Ricardian fanatics at Bosworth in a couple of weeks.

Thiss book isn't a total whitewash - just the next best thing. Okerlund obviously really wants to rehabilitate Lizzie W from the foul slurs heaped upon her by Ricardian fanatics past and present - but to me she seriously over-eggs the pudding. There's a serious lack of objectivity, which might be explained by the fact that the editor/co-author is none other than Alison 'Richard III was the Ant-Christ' Weir. Weir's anti- Ricardian stance is laughed at by most serious historians (including most anti-Ricardians) as are her deliberate omissions/twisting of the facts that don't fit her story. This book had the potential to be a reasoned exposition of the Woodville side of the story - but not in its existing form.

The Mother of the Princes in the Tower is better, but I have lent that out to someone and can't recall who it was.

Darn, I saw the title of this and almost got excited....then I read the W word (Weir), and all hopes of an objective and unbiased book were instantly dismissed! Oh well!

Ah but if you read enough of the fanatically pro-Ricardian stuff and then read an equal amount of fanatically anti-Ricardian stuff you end up with an unbiased stance.

Or would it be like matter and anti-matter - total conversion to energy?

Wel, they're separated by the Company of St George Photo album (aka 'The Medieval Soldier') and you may make of that what you will...
