Worsted Braid
Is worsted braid available in the UK? I mean the pure wool herringbone weave tape traditionally known as 'lace' in military/livery uniforms.
I'm asking on behalf of a friend who's looking for dark red, burgundy, cream, black or beige braid in 1/2" and 1inch widths. I don't think I've seen that breadth of colours but thought I'd ask.
Thanks

Young men have often been ruined through owning horses, or through backing them, but never through riding them: unless of course they break their necks, which, taken at a gallop, is a very good death to die

Thanks for replying.
It's for waistbands (the kind which run off into tying tapes), bindings and sleeve trim. That's why he wants the two different widths. And its meant to be orfentic so he doesn't want to use cotton, but thanks so much for offering.
Wyedean (nearly typed Wyedale!) look fantastic! Do they take retail orders? And how small can an order be?

If they have it in stock they will sell to you by the meter.
If they don't they have to weave it to order, so you have to order several miles to make it worth their while

I've just taken delivery of 100m of made-to-order regimental lace from Wyedean (minimum order was 50m). Cost just under £300. I suspect if you wanted a new pattern the minimum order might be greater but we have ordered this pattern before. Plain tape they will have in stock.

Generally speaking, their minimum order for 'off the shelf' items is £100 + VAT. Worsteds are generally kept in stock, at least in black and white.

We retail 1/2 & 1" worsted braid in black and white/cream in our shop.
1" is £2.50 per m
1/2 " £1.75 per m.
Obviously, it will cost less per m if your friend wants to buy a substantial enough amount and is able to deal with Wyedean direct

We quite often buy smaller amounts of both worsted and metallic laces from them.
In my experience they're only strict on the minimums if you're having something made that isn't in stock. Although going to see them personally may be a factor (not sure).
Give them a ring.
