Hi Sally,

It's for a community 40's day, and is in a hard standing/tarmac carpark, so for H&S muchly physical activities are a bit dangerous, I do like the idea of a coconut shy tho  , I was thinking a marbles championship also, with the winner (as per the 40's what with shortages) getting a rosette and a jar of marbles, basicly things that kids would have done at a village fete in the 40's, as todays kids are so high tech on the whole, showing them the realities of how to have fun with whats available 'make do and mend' mentality

What about some sort of fishing game?
Pin the tail on the donkey
Push penny games..
Treasure hunt.. biggest bucket (or a tin bath if you can find it) of sand with lolly sticks stuck into it with coloured tape - red, green, yellow - the rarest colour gets a prize
Battle ships?
prizes - bananas or oranges and and make a big deal about it

whack the rat!
Get a tube fixed to a board, and a beanbag(or a rag-doll) give it a piece of wool as a tail.

Drop the "rat" down the tube, the kid has to hit the rat with a bat/stick, if they hit it they get a prize

(See what scouting taught me?!)
If you look generic you look like a few people, ok...

"Who can get the most objects in a matchbox?" was always popular at my village fetes.
