CDs of Tudor Music

Post by Vicky »

I've been asked to suggest a CD or two of 'jolly Tudor music' for background for a community event. It doesn't have to be 100% 'authentic', and they're not too bothered about exact period either. Something easy to get though (e.g Amazon).

I have absolutely no ideas - anyone?

Diabolous are good, although I don't think it's on Amazon.

Also, Google Squeakes Noyse, Misericordia and Gaita - they do medieval/Tudor music.

Passamezzo.

Marcus:
What's wrong with wanting recommendations from other people? The music and books forum is quite a lot to trawl through, opening each thread to see whether it's talking about a book, or a cd, or whatever.

Plenty of cds come up searching for 'Tudor' in Amazon too (as indeed the event organiser has already done) - but again, I was asking for suggestions. :D

Thanks Annis :D

Vicky - I'm pretty sure Marcus was joking! *hopes*

Would second Annis on Misericordia&Gaita. Their CD is pretty fabulous!

I also suggest searching for Arbeau (there is a CD on Amazon) he wrote down a lot of country dances, so are bound to be jolly.

Misericordia have about 7 C.D's out.
Would also suggest Garden of Delights by Daughters of Elvin

Sorry - the one I (and Annis, I think too) was refering to was the Eschewing of Idleness.

Wont even attempt the middle English spelling of that...

Eschewynge of Ydleness

I wasn't particularly referring to that CD, just them as individual groups as I guess all their music is similar to that of the E of Y CD.
