Now I've stopped counting insect bites(You were wrong,Tod)...Irony is,I suggested we have some Loyalist militia to even the numbers(thinking I quite fancy that)... & was promptly put in charge of the Rebel Militia(teach me to keep my mouth shut!)....Think whatever the Pirates were drinking had about killed my vocal cords so I was sqeaking well....Thank the God of Events the weather saved it's rude awakening for today!

Fantastic weather. I think I was so loaded with man-stink that the insects avoided me (with the exception of the crunchy green weavle on my ear)
Loyalist militia would be good though.
being a gum-slapping, slack-jawed, jibber-jabbering, pointy-headed insurectionist did leave a dirty taste in my mouth

I may try and put some kit together for the next time
Young men have often been ruined through owning horses, or through backing them, but never through riding them: unless of course they break their necks, which, taken at a gallop, is a very good death to die

Spare large shirt pulled over the rest covers multitude of sins....'tho now looking at possibly a pair of drop-fly breeches...quite interested in the Mohawk/Ohio valley campaigns which saw very few British regulars...Andy R wrote: Loyalist militia would be good though.

If you have the old Osprey book on Loyalists they had some nice plates showing them on campaign in (patched) trowsers.
I didn't bring mine as I have yet to repair them since I burst out of them at a battle prom last year
We're not doing the gunpowder mills next year, so when would be the next opportunity?

Good point, but with the 47th already in NFOE & some of the Crown Forces guys talking about getting F&I kit,I would be surprised if all this "cross-contamination" didn't lead to oppertunities & we're not talking major new purchases for militia....think It's something I'll work on for my own interest & wait for the chance to use it!

Our CO had an idea for the 15th through the ages sort of thing which I may look at with renewed interest.
Although not involved with the insurrection in any way, shape, or form, the kit is nigh identical to the 16th (post royal warrant)

Sounds like the Gunpowder Mills event was a great one. I bet that the smell of burned gunpowder still sits in your nostrils
Neil, sounds like a fantastic event at Prestonpans. How many groups were involved? Getting to reenact at the same field as the battle took place sounds thrilling... I hope to do that one day. Maybe next year?
Cheers,
Henrik

As for Prestonpans Neil - 4am marching a thing to be done for the experience.... once! Not easy to lead a column in the dark through rough territory!
And I agree, it was good to be piped into the palace. Happy to enjoy my own again!

Top marks to you and the guys for the march......I was very impressed by the number who had got up to do it.....mad fools!!!
Henrik,
It is always better to march to victory...........especially when there is a large baggage train to be plundered not to mention a big cooked breakfast at the end of it!!!!
Cheers

Hi
Should get some photos up over the weekend sometime on Scotwars site when I get time to email them to Rab
There are a couple of hosting sites that have some as well
http://www.eastnews.pl/news/biuletyn.ph ... 2007-09-22
http://www.flickr.com/photos/82922695@N00/
For what it's worth............
I really enjoyed the event, the reception in the Palace and the skirmish on the actual battlefield. Quite like Derby in a lot of ways with the parades and number of sites spread over an area.
I'm sure there are a few more things that could be done to enhace the experience and develop the skirmishing/ fighting part more but I think it's still a learning process for the organisers and they seem keen to develop it and take it further
Cheers
Neil

If Flemming's or Pultney's ever decide to do a night attack on the Edinburgh Volunteers in order to capture the breakfast I will consider getting myself a black cockade and join them for the raid
The kits look very good indeed, Neil! It's good to see more people doing serious research rather than doing the big-bearded cotton-shirted highlanders with tammys.
Cheers,
Henrik

Yes, the Czechs were a fine bunch with a lot to offer.
I agree with Neil that the event was similar to Derby, and that is understandable since Derby was in many ways the inspiration after the organisers visited last December. Hopefully the Pans event will be developed further over the years.

Yes, I got some hundreds of photos. I was playing about with a new camera so they're not all great - but there are some pretty good ones too. I'll bung the whole lot on to a CD for Tod to disperse and I'll hopefully put some of the better ones up online later today when I've had a chance to go through them all.

That's fine, the drunkeness was entirely mutual. Oh and the booze was "Sir Cloudesly", a drink popular amongst eighteenth century English seamen and named after the famous admiral, Sir Cloudesly Shovell (d. 1707). It contains beer, brandy, brown sugar, and lemon juice - in varying proportion depending on what time of the evening I make it.
There's a handful of pictures up here:

Or is it too rude

Shame you only have the one really

But I don't share it, sharing pistols is wrong, very wrong even for horse loving girls.

You shared with Steve.
I saw it with my own eyes so I did.
And you shared with me at Bath. That was special.
I will always remember our time together at Bath.
It's easier on horseback, as holsters come in pairs.
When they finally arrive that is........
(Don't any one ever complain about Tod's lead time)
