iam wanting to do a early saxon army to fight my romano british, and i was wandering. what did the early saxons look like ive had a look though some books but cant find what iam after so i thought id ask them that know these things what are the diffences between viking age saxons and earlyer saxons if any that is ?

small shields and unarmoured for the best part, though the leader and his hearthguard are going to be in very nice armour, heavily decorated helms and swords and a tonne of shiney metal plastered over them. You might even see a few bits of late roman stuff kicking around in the ranks since so many germanics were serving in the roman army.
