Groups near (ish) Essex?

Postby Catleigh » Wed Sep 01, 2010 2:50 pm

Hello all

I am new to all this but very keen to get involved. When I was young we had a school trip to Kentwell Hall in Suffolk where they had a Tudor day and lots of re-enactors. It was a fabulous day :) I have always loved history so now would like to do something more than read about it!

I live in Essex and my specific interests are Plantagenets and Tudor.

Does anyone know of any groups which are local (ish) to me? I have a car so can travel.

Thank you!

Best wishes

Claire

The Household http://www.thehousehold.org which holds its off season meetings at Cressing Temple Nr Braintree will have a recruiting stall at The Templar's Fayre. This taking place 11th/12th September and is being held at ... Cressing Temple.

We are a late 15th century living history group, so datewise we are very early Tudor. I believe Kentwell is Henry VIII and later (?)

Check out the medieval siege society (www.medieval-siege-society.co.uk) as we have loads of members in Essex, and some Essex events booked in for 2011 already.

There's a pub social meet up happening soon at Castle Hedingham that I'll send you details of too.

Fantastic :)

Is it normal to get this excited about it all at my age (34)?!

Will check all three out - thank you so much :)

Val - yes, Kentwell is late Henry VIII but the time period for your group sounds perfect for me :)

Try contacting the Hunting lodge in epping forest. My mum did Tudor for a while and was loosly based there for her events.

where in essex are you bassed, it could help with finding groups.

Hi Catleigh, Kentwell covers the whole of the C16th. Every year is different depending on what Tudor year is chosen :)

Sorry Annis :(

It was a long time ago (I think I am getting old!)
