Noob looking for a group in NE England
Hi I'm looking for a group based in the North east - im from middlesbrough but wouldnt mind travelling a bit. Im not sure what era, tho my partner has a passing interest in vikings or a bit later - something with swords rather than guns- im a total noob sorry! We have a young son ( only 1 yr) , can babies join in?
Re: Noob looking for a group in NE England
Look at Rosa Mundi for medieval or find Oakenshield on here - he has an anglo saxon/norman early medieval group based in Co Durham
Check out the societies bit on here and you'll find other groups. Look at them all, try to visit their events and see who appeals and where you think you'll best fit.
Babies love it -all my three grew up doing the hobby and are still involved!
Good luck

There’s a country in Europe where they treat their ex soldiers with pride no waits for medical treatment after injuries received during service, no amensia from the government. Cant for the life of me recall where it is but I know exactly where it is not.

Sometimes I look out of my window down here and I agree with you there Sean, oh well, at least Derby's closer to the events and the Markets!

If you lived in Redcar you would need some form of escape

Re: Noob looking for a group in NE England
Having noticed this was from many years ago, I reckon my chances are slim with this but I thought why the hell not?
I run a re-enactment group based in Middlesbrough and the surrounding areas, we were based within the University but due to lack of interest from University students we've pulled out. We are part of Crusade Re-enactment which means we of course specialise in the Crusades. But also on the 12th century and early 13th. The Nationwide society has done Viking in the past but due to a huge amount of Viking groups we don't do it much due to lack of shows, we do Normans now mainly but also we do 15th Century War of the Roses and the Napoleonic era as the Black Brunswickers (we are predominantly cannon crew) and the War of 1812 as a mix of Native Americans, American Militia and English Naval Crew. And most recently we have just returned from a show that did the Jacobite Rebellion so running around in kilts etc (not a good idea in December!)
We of course provide free kit to lend out until you know you enjoy it and there is plenty of opportunity for shows. Do feel free to contact me on eddygladders@yahoo.co.uk or 07813171345.

I know its likely to be outside your period(s) of interest but,Roma Antiqua hold events during the Spring and Summer at Binchester roman fort (Co Durham),they cover the occupation period from the 1st century c.e to the 5th century c.e (plus a stray 7th century East Anglian warrior),why not pop on down during the next season and take a look, details should be up on the Binchester site in the next few weeks.
