Hi. My other half is determined to make a 15th century brig (mad, impetuous fool that he is!). Can anyone point us in the right direction for info on the net, or in a book, which will help us with construction?
We have some idea of how to go about this but the more info we can gather before plunging in the better!

In addition to the above, which is very good especially the patterns, I'd also do searches on http://www.companie-of-st-george.ch/ml- ... reads.html http://www.wolfeargent.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi and http://forums.armourarchive.org/phpBB2/. These have some very useful discussions with valuable contributions from Craig Nadler and Bob Read who are the guys responsible for the brigs on the above site.
Also visit the Armouries at Leeds if possible as they have two on display. One on a mannequin and one laid open so you can see the rivet and plate patterns. They apparently have 4 altogether and I keep meaning to contact them to see if the others are on display anywhere. The library staff at Leeds are very helpful although the amount written on brigs seems quite small. There is also an article in Conservator Magazine written by someone who worked on one of the Armouries ones several years ago, I don’t have the details to hand at the moment but you’ll find it mentioned in the online discussions. It’s also possible that the Armouries have some good photos of theirs but I haven’t gotten round to asking them yet.
If you decide you want to use rivets/nails with a decorative head like the originals then there is a company called Sapphire Products in Birmingham (http://www.sapphireproducts.co.uk/) that will make a die to your specifications for a not unreasonable amount. I was considering using them until I was able to obtain some of the nails you’ll see mentioned on the FireStryker forums.

Thanks folks - the site with the patterns is a godsend and the forum looks extremely useful. Also another excuse to visit the Leeds Armoury - yea!
