I'm thinking about making some heraldic costume, only to be worn very rarely! but I like a challenge.


I'm ok with viewing the colours from the front, but what happens when you view from behind.....?

Should the colours be round the right way, or reversed? I have a cross in the top LH quadrant when you look from the front, so when you look at the rear view (not to be recommended on the whole.... ) should the cross be in the top left, or top right.

Should have gone for something symmetrical!

Normaly colours are identical rear as front, then if viewed from behind your still wearing the same colours, as some regiments/colours are just the reverse of others and they are designed to remove confussion not add...

but on a heraldic dress.... I'd guess it should be the same rule! Makes sense to me!

Dianne, now thats a leading question... and having seen matilda fight, I'll not follow that lead!!!!!

Heraldic banners are a mirror image on the reverse ie: a rampant lion
always faces the 'Dexter' (pole) so would be facing it on the rear also.
