How do you lay the pattern out for hose on the fabric
The Almighty says this must be a fashionable fight. It's drawn the finest people.

If you lay the pattern pieces on the bias (diagonally) you get the stretchiest way, then you can bend your knees. uses a fair amount of material though

Absolutely.

unfold the cloth, and make sure that the centre line (up the leg) goes at 45 degrees (ish - it doesn't have to be anally accurate!!) o the selvedge.

then (for late medieval hosen), make sure that you turn the pattern over fo the second leg.

Thank you all for the sensible suggestion my tailor (mum) is very appricaitive as for Jorge sugestion thank you for taking the time out of your busy life to respondant and if all else fails I will resort to your suggestion hehehehe.

Don't go for all that Ben, just get some tights/leotard.
oi - be careful - there acually was a (v small) group at tewkes a few years ago that had been told medieval men wore tights - so they did - that and netball-y type tabards.

fortunately the tights were opaque, but they were still - ahem - womens tights.

now their wives on the other hand had very nice and accurate later C15th gowns and hats....

I saw what I hope was a MOP at Berkeley wearing a lovely pair of gold sparkly tights. He didn't even look very embarressed...

Gold spangly tights! sivler works better for me as it looks like 'chain mail'....
