Mouldy Straw Hat

How can I get the mould off my straw hat, my husband kindly chucked my straw hat and my straw bonnet in the shed and they have gone mouldy. I have tried everything I can think of but cant get it off. So before I have to kill him what can I do

Mem Sahib says try a damp cloth or dye them black with a linen dye.

What period, in the more civilised periods (18th & 19thC) you can cover the bonnet and the low crowned straws with fabric.

Daubing them with tar to waterproof is prob'ly a step too far eh?

Hi annie, try wiping down with Milton fluid (it also works on tents )

Tried Milton, still black. 1 is a victorian straw boater and the other is a low crowned straw bonnet might take Mem Sahib's advice and cover them. Alternatively I could just make Andreas buy me new ones

Tried lemon juice? Very mild chlorine bleach?
