Sourcing Veg-Tanned Leather

Post by Frances Perry »

Hi all,

I'm enquiring for a friend who wishes to make a scabbard for his sword himself - does anyone have any links to UK traders in good quality veg tanned leather hide?

Thanks in advance,

Fran

How about Keith Lyon? He sells all sorts of leather to reenactors and I buy from him myself.

Yup, great chaps here. Very reenactor-friendly too.

Hi Fran,

Definately LePrevo - they're brilliant. Give them a ring, they'll chat with you, send you samples etc. before you decide what you need / want.

Really good to deal with.

Stu.

There's a small back street shop in Matlock ,Derbyshire who sell veg tan and anything else associated with leatherwork.I've dealt with them a few times and they're very friendly......even got a cup of coffee last time I went.I can't for the life of me remember the name,I know they have a website but I never use it as I only live 15 miles away so always drive there.Someone else may know the name and this may jog their memory.......they do lots of shows too.........I'll have to have a look for a receipt and see if the names on........not much use I know, but I'll have a look

They are The Identity Store. Same products as Tandy but usually works out cheaper as Tandy's shipping prices are through the roof

I usually buy from the Identity Store (always lovely people to chat to) or LePrevo (a bit cheaper and very efficient). I have bought from Keith Lyons before, but he can be a little hard to get hold of.

For sacabbards, you really want 2mm (or less) vedge-tan leather and be prepared to put some time/effort in.

Good luck
Colin
