dyeing with raspberry leaves

Post by kate/bob »

During the summer I decided that when it came time to prune my autumn fruiting raspberries I would have a go at using the leaves to make a dye bath. It's now time to cut them back, but I've not got anything ready to dye and can't see that I will have this side of Christmas. I'm sure I've read somewhere that you can freeze the dyebath and then use it at a later date, but of course I can't find which book I read it in. Has anyone tried this? Or dyeing with raspberry leaves come to that!

No idea on the freezing, but we did do marbled eggs with raspberry leaves and got a fab result. Not the answer you were looking for I'm afraid!

Have you considered just letting the leaves dry, and rehydrating them when you're ready to color the fabric? What color of dye do these leaves yield?

Sadly all plans were destroyed by the snow which after sitting on the autumn raspberries for nearly a month has left them dried and useless. A project for next year I think!
