tablet weaving looms

Post by kate/bob »

has anyone seen any contemporary 15th c illustrations of the "box" type of tablet weaving looms? I've seen quite a few people using them at events, but never seen a picture of one. The ones that seem to be in illustrations are the ones with the two uprights. I'd really like a loom but i don't see the point in getting a non-authentic loom.

There's a couple on the wonderful Karen Larsdatter's website
http://racer.kb.nl/pregvn/MIMI/MIMI_74G ... 9V_MIN.JPG (15th century)
http://cartelfr.louvre.fr/cartelfr/visi ... otice=3414 (c. 1500)

and some information on using them on the Soper Lane website

I can make you one, if you like, with whatever tension system you prefer- either a small dial system, or pegs?

Hi,
I've just looked at the 2 images from Karen's site listed above and I would say they look like heddle looms not tablet - which type are you looking for?
John makes a very neat table top version of the free standing tablet loom.

As far as I'm aware the box looms are not so easy to use with tablets as "the box" can get in the way of turning the tablets (but as I'm not a weaver......!)

Call at our stall at TORM and we'll be happy to discuss different types with you!

Cheers,
Deb
