Offcuts amnesty

Postby Vicky » Wed Aug 29, 2007 10:02 am

Luton museums are preparing for a new textiles exhibition to start next Spring. We are designing some educational activities to run alongside it, both for schools and community involvement, and we're going to need a lot of (small pieces of) fabric.

If anyone is hoarding some offcuts of any type of fabric that they don't really need, we'd be very grateful for them - they would be put to good use.

Anything 6" x 6" or larger is useful to us.

I will be going to TORM and the NLHF and can arrange collection there (or at Luton if anyone is local!).

Thanks!
Vicky

How much do you want ? :D

will sort you out something

There’s a country in Europe where they treat their ex soldiers with pride no waits for medical treatment after injuries received during service, no amensia from the government. Cant for the life of me recall where it is but I know exactly where it is not.

Typical,

After having a large box of such pieces for several years, i finally got rid of it a couple of weeks ago (dragged it up to my sister in Rhyl, as she is a worse hoarder than me for such things). And as i work in Cambridge it would have been easy to drop it off for you!

Thanks Nige, I thought you'd already had a clear out, but we'll be happy for whatever is left! The more the merrier (honestly, we need loads!)

Chris - ah well, thanks anyway. If you find any more lurking in unopened cupboards...

Presumeably, you need wools of all colours and types, linens and silks [damasks, jaquards, brocades and plains? Can have a really good bunch sorted for you if you like - I'm a dreadful hoarder!

We need all sorts, so that would be fantastic, thanks Gini. Will you be at one of the markets?

I'll be at TORM in early November. Between Tuppence & Nigel and myself, we should have you sorted out for years!

We trade as Chimera Costumes.

Thanks again!

maybe you could arrange a bin at TORM for anyone to drop their offcuts into ? With a big notice explaining. That way those that don't know you can find it.

I'm arranging another costume chat day at the end of November. If you are still in need of stuff I can ask people to save and bring their bits along. Someone is bound to be going from south London to Luton area in December or early 2008.

Thank you Frances, that would be appreciated - the exhibition isn't until March '08, so there's plenty of time! I also go to South London quite often, so I'm sure something could be arranged.
Thanks

OK I'll let people know. I'll also start saving my bits. 6" x 6" smallest size.

I must be very mean - I hardly ever have anything that big!

I don't think I'll be over to England before March either but if we do come over we'll be driving North up the A1 - If I have any suitable scraps I'll bring them...

Dear Vicky,

Can you get to the chat day on Sat 17th Nov in Redhill, south of London. Or can you get to me in Croydon before 23rd November. I have a few black bags of stuff to give you. I would like them somewhere else before I go into hospital to have my Achilles Tendons sorted out as I will not be able to do anything for at least one month afterwards.

Excuse me resurrecting this thread but I have been "forced" to clear out my craft cupboard (actually the entire wardrobe in the spare bedroom!) Are you still collecting bits of material? I have decided that there are too many bits and pieces of all sorts of material that I will never use. I would be able to deliver them to Cambridge.

Regards

Val
