Barbara Emerson, Book Club Associates of London, 1976.
A biography of "the Flower of Chivalry", Edward of Woodstock, the Prince of Wales. His exploits in France, his less than successful intervention in the Castilian civil wars and an examination of the personality of the man.
There are most likely more up to date histories of the man, I have not got a great deal of interest in him though. However if anyone would like to point one out to me I expect I'd make time to read it in the future. He just lies outside my usual period of study.

'Hawkwood Diabolical Englishman' Frances Stonor Saunders, ISBN 0 571 21909 8 first published 2004.
A very readable examination of the man and the culture he existed in. Source notes in the back labelled by page as well as chapter so easy to find when you want to look one up :D.

'Medieval Mercenaries' William Urban 2006 ISBN 13 978 185367 697 0
A wider remit, looking at where 'the mercenary' came from, how developed and what it meant in the society. Sources less fully listed/easily related to the text.

There's another I have around somewhere - can't find it just now (I know I saw it when rearranging the books the other day).
