Butterfly Brooch

Post by Thomas Hayman »

Hi all, a quick little something, not quite finished.

It will be a butterly shaped brooch. Initially made of copper to test the design and tweak the pattern as necessary copying in silver afterwards.

The pattern was made from a picture found on google of a real butterfly. I then imported that into Freehand and traced the outline, scaling it down to a more sensible size.

This was then very tediously cut out with a jewelers saw. After snapping 3 blades i finally go it cut out and filed to a more pleasing shape.

Not a lot to look at so far, i'll put some more pictures up tomorrow once i have shaped and textured.

T'is a shame. You've only had since January.

That's the thing, i couldn't quite make my mind up about it.

I was thinking of setting a stone down the middle for the body and texturing the wings.

Ufortunately as you may have guessed, it isn't the top of my list of things to finish. The workshop needs finishing first (hopefully the next couple of months).
