medieval market in weston super mare 2007 - interested?

Postby House of De Clifford » Fri Nov 03, 2006 3:11 pm

Hi everyone,

We have just had a very interesting meeting with Weston town centre partnership about our sweet stall pitch through December and they were very interested in the medieval events we attend.

They would like to put on two weekend events next year in the town centre, one in summer (we have plenty of holiday makers coming to the town!) and one just before christmas.

The preferred dates would be 30th June - 1st July and 22nd - 23rd Dec. I would like to know if any of you would be interested in attending... and i would be imagine would be similar to the Oyster and Ludlow events. Pitch fees would be at reasonable prices. We will be allowed to pitch our tents and stay onsite, for any of you who know the town it will be held at the Italian Gardens/ Town square on the high street.

thoughts please?

Both sets of dates would be great for us, The December dates could just be a little cool - have to get some Trolls Bottom mead inside us or some of Martins Chilli cheese to keep the cold at bay. But we're up for it :)

The problem with leaving your stock overnight in a town centre is the Neds. What do you propose for security?

Thanks Dave,

we are proposing security guards for this very purpose, we have already spoken with the organisers about this. It may also be possible to fence off the area, but this needs discussion.

"The Gathering" is run over the August Bank Holiday. I would stick with Herstmonceaux and Event Plan' s do. They do have a number of small events over the year but hardly worth going to if there is an alternative medieval event.

Whats the Gathering then, where is it and whats it about. The gathering from the film Highlander has just popped into my mind, but then again I am slightly weird. (no comments from the back there please)

Will there be any marquees or buildings for those who do not have, or do not want to pitch, their own tents?

Hi Frances,
very good question. I will put it to the organisers and see if they suck their teeth or not. Also, thanks for bringing the thread back on line. can we keep this thread for the topic of W_S_M only please.
Dave.

Hi All,

We had another meeting today and the two dates are now confirmed.
There will definately be security both Friday and Saturday nights. Traders only toilets ( the public and visitors have a choice of 4 other sets located nearby but only open during the day, so we will have our own at night.) The market will be fenced off securely.

Applications will be available from January, I will post the address here after Christmas.

I'll be in touch soon

Hi Frances,

sorry but i don't think there will be room this year for a marquee for traders without tents. If it is a success, there may be room to extend it in future years. There may be a trader considering the event who could lend you a tent, or share?

Trading as caterer

Postby Sorrynoburgers » Wed Jan 24, 2007 4:04 pm

Hi

We are a catering trader thats fairly new , this is our second year, we attended a couple of medieval reenactor events last year and have booked several for this year.

Its the sort of thing that we enjoy doing and our food seems to have gone down well at the events we have attended, would their be space at this event for catering?

thanks

Steve

As per note on the other forum, Dave and I have not had any further luck with the organisers despite badgering them constantly. We have made the decision not to pursue this any further as if this is the apathy the organisers have at this stage, god help us at the actual events!!!!!

Sorry guys
