Next year we fancy a coach tour to snuffle around some crusty old dilapidated towns in northern France, has anyone been - has anyone got any tips ?

How far North do you want to remain? My personal favourite is Dinan up river (trip on river boat worth it) from St Malo in Brittany.

We had a great holiday based in Arras a couple of years ago.
Lots of WWI sites, obviously, but there's older stuff there as well.
Also recommend the local beers. Similar to the Belgian stuff but loads of variety.
Sitting in the sun on the Place Des Heros in Arras with a beer or coffee is a really good way to unwind.

The Mont Saint-Michel in Normandy is fantastic, it's a monastry on an island, approached by a tidal causeway. I went there with the school when I was a kid, and other than the tourist tat shops that wind up the main street to the monastry on the top of the rock I'd highly recomend it for the monastry itself.

I'd highly recomend it for the monastry itself.
Apart from the fact that you have to pay to get in. I REALLY resent having to pay to enter a place of worship, any place of worship. I don't class myself as religeous but these buildings should be open to all. Yes, request a donation but barring people who either can't or wont pay? Sorry - rant over.

I recomend Brittany, ace neolithic - WWII sites and all things inbetween. Cidres good too.
