Unlikely- the very concept of ingestion by smoking, as opposed to concoction or vaporising, is pretty much unheard of until the concept is introduced by contact with natives of the Americas.

Nope, everything I have read points to it being eaten, drunk, smeared on or worn.

i think smearing on herbal remedies sounds like a much more sensable way to go about it....."would you like a smear?" "oh yes please - i'm gagging!" ......see!

Now there's an idea for smokere who reenact. Bandage a wad of damp rolling tobbaco to your arm and you might absorb enough nicotine to stop the craving for a ciggie during events? You could say it was a treatment from the barber surgeon.

What about incense as a 'vector'. I've heard rumors that one of the reasons Rosemary was used as incense is because it stimulates blood flow to the brain and there-by keeps the parishoners awake and helps them remember what the preist is telling them. I can see herbs like that thrown into the fire in winter to keep miasma and disease away. (Pure speculation, obviously).

As to putting a burning herb in your mouth, I think that'll take a lot longer to appear!

Good luck on the search.

failing that, simply apply a small, transparent nictoine patch somewhere out of sight, saving on bandages ;-)
