In one scene just before the attack on a big Hunter the young captain (Jürgen Prochnow) is sitting with his maps. Beside him he has got a glass of beer standing. The sub lurches heavily right and left in the hard weather, but the surface of the liquid stays the same.

In the scene where Johann the engineer cracks during a depth charge barrage, the skipper hurriedly retrieves his pistol. After Johann is subdued, the weary skipper lays the weapon down unfired. It is a Walther P.38, but a postwar model, as revealed by the grips and alloy frame. Also, a lieutenant commander would probably have had a Walther PPK or Navy Mauser.

When attacking the convoy, the crew rushes forward during the crash dive. Just after a crew member jumps through the hatch after the bow crew compartment, you see someone standing still a second before getting pushed in the view of the camera.

After the first attack on the U96 the captain decides to resurface after sunset. However when they do resurface it's broad daylight.

The 'Fire Drill' will be a wet business for Lieutenant Werner – the right side window on the car is open. At least you see a horizontal line almost halfway down on his side window. You see it when they meet the Bosun's Mate. When they meet the men at their Fire Drill, it even looks as if Lt. Werner opens his window.

During the heavy storm which lasts for 3 weeks, you can see clear blue sky above the U-Boat.

Unlike real American aircraft where the usual annoyance is incorrect targets

Apparently, after one of the infamous 'friendly fire' debacles in Afghanistan where the USAF bombed Candian positions, one lot of US airman visited the base of the offending bomber pilots and under their squadron sign where their bombing campaigns were listed, they paintied a Candian flag for each of the por buggers they killed. Didn't go down too well, by all accounts.

the biggest problem with the film is the cutdowm version which is only about an hour long, its pants, for the full effect you need the full length version, apart from that good film

I'm either gonna get slated or thanked for this, but best intentions meant as I thought a certain word was spelled a different way for 40 yrs until someone braved my contempt and corrected me..
fanastic = fantastic
grasp = gasp (maybe wrong)
boot = boat (maybe wrong)
service = surface
claustrofobic = claustrophobic

can't you tell i'm bored....

My excuse is that;
-im daft
-im foreign
-im drunk

And boot is spelled BOOT as its the name of the movie and its German.
