It trully was a splendid event! I thouroughly enjoyed myself, the Bruces army was duly decimated by the English to the shock and horror of the crowd (I don't think anyone had told them that we were meant to loose) but then in the re-fight, the Valiant Scots overcame insuperable odds (outnumbered by one on paper) to gain a glorious victory.

The morning started with a Grand Tourney with teams of combatants fighting for the honour of being knighted by the King. Unfortunately, the King was late so we had to fill in some time with a Circle of Honour, last combatant standing (me) was the winner!

The battle script was supplied by the Vikings battle-captain and she thought that the battle went very well despite some worries at the battle briefing.

I am only sorry that it was not a two day event. Can we have more like this please?

I'll definately be coming next year, I had no idea it was going to be so good or I'd have got time off work for it :)

I heard a rumour that it is to be two day next year?

We got to hit each other lots - I was fighting within 1 hr of arriving - meanwhile the public were entertained and edified, and all with a sort of local pageant feel. It's how it ought to be.

Hi Everyone some great pics there and it was a great day. i have been on to the organisers and trying to persuade them to do it again next year at the moment they are having a wee rest after the big day. i will post something on the living history web site when i hear something it would be good to know which groups are interested and how many bodies will be coming if it does go ahead.

you can post hear or email me direct iandeveney@caleystream.co.uk.
