The only problem was I was in the middle and the bloody announcement van was in the way so could only see part of the battle filed and couldnt find another spot due to too many people :}}. Hope you like what I managed to get tho

I would say they look more like jogging bottoms, but, yes, seems that way. Shocking, isn't it.

12 up from the bottom shows the piles you get from a diet of almost pure mud. Or some sort of strange tail dance.
I'm very impressed by the photographer my pictures never come out like that.

They were great, not a single one of Craig in among them.

(Its our dash't good looks omae, the sais just can't stand the way our strong celtic features make them appear weak and puny.)

Thats a black arming cap( Helm came loose when I fell over in an exageratted death scene, hadn't re adjusted it when the pic was taken), light grey whole hose, and yes the breast plate doesn't fit, it's a GDFB one, and it only arrived just before I came away, and I need to adjust the back straps by about 2.5 inches on the vertical and about 1 inch on the horizontal to make it fit, but I wanted to play in it.

I don't believe you. If Jenn says there is a bobble on your arming cap, then a bobble there must be.

It does look distinctly like a hat with a folded up rim, but if you tell me different then I'll take your word for it. The camera, despite what they say, does lie.

But I'm going to query if they're light grey hose.
They appear to be unshaped and have a side seam.
Now, if you tell me that's an unfortunate trick of the camera, I will believe you.
But if it isn't, then when you next replace your hose take some advice on a hose pattern, because you could, quite easily, do much better than that. I'm sure people on here would be thrilled to help.

Great pictures, I love the compostion of them....

But...

What period are they set in? Everything from 12thC to late 15thC.

Yep. That's correct. That's when it's set.

That's ok then.

I have to say, this is why we stopped doing medieval. I love the pictures but the representation of so much mix and match is just wrong.

That's a shame, because there increasing numbers of shows which are time specific. I think if it mattered to you, you could fill a season with those sorts of events.
Thrud wrote:but the representation of so much mix and match is just wrong.
It's a charity event that raises money for the historical site of the Old Hall at Tatton (where it's set). Some of the groups have been supporting the event for more than 10 years, and in that time we've almost certainly stopped the Old Hall from closing to the public as well as paying for some impressive renovations.

In this case, I'm afraid, you'll have to accept that it is what it is.
I for one am grateful for everyone who comes and has contributed over the years.

Ahhh! Makes more sense now.

It was seeing heater shields etc at Tewks and Berkely and places like that that got my goat.

I will stop bleating.

Work in progress, but it gets better every year.
I think it says something that a single Great Helm at Tewkesbury last year caused such a lot of comment. It doesn't seem so long since the field was full of them.
Thrud wrote:I will stop bleating.
I think it's a fair comment.
But then I would, now that I'm getting adequate kit together to do a bigger range of medieval battles; people tend to think the acceptable standard is line drawn fractionly lower than their current standing.

Thrud, you'll have to turn up at Taton Next year with your lot, a full shield wall & give them what for...  8)

Now, there really would be some head scratching going on then.

On a serious note, some good points about heater shields & helms & the mix & match of periods. Unless its stated in the publicity that its a medieval etc all periods event/mele
