A little ditty

Postby Mark P. » Wed Jan 10, 2007 10:05 pm

One for the jolly jack tars.

A little ditty I found in my copy of 'The Wooden World' said to have been sung by Gosport girls in the 1780's.
Made me smile but not enough to want to kiss anyone's bottom!

Don't you see the ships a-coming?
Don't you see them in full sail?
Don't you see the ships a-coming
With the prizes at their tail?
Oh my little rolling sailor,
Oh! my little rolling he;
I do love a jolly sailor,
Blithe and merry might he be.

Sailors they get all the money,
Soldiers they get none but brass;
I do love a jolly sailor,
Soldiers they may kiss my ar5e.
Oh my little rolling sailor,
Oh! my little rolling he;
I do love a jolly sailor,
Soldiers may be damned for me.

Those Gosport birds are a bit odd in the head and rough as old boots, but apparently they get some things right :lol:
