250th Minden Day in 2009

Post by Musketier »

dear friends,

in germany now i'm starting to organise the 250th anniversary
of minden with some friends. at the moment there is nothing much
to say, but i can give one little information who's maybe important
for your groups who wants to come to germany:

in 2009 the event takes place at the first weekend in august,
the 1st august is fortunatly a saturday.

at the second weekend, from 8th to 9th august the traditional
"timetravel into the 18th century" takes place in fulda/hessia.

some of the pulteney's took part in 2006 and maybe it is attractiv
for some of you, to combine the two events in germany.

there are some impressions of fulda 2007 and 2006:

50 years "earlier" but a nice example of a combined Peloton, formed by the groups "Gardes Francoise" and "Royal Ecossais" at the reenactment of Almansa (1707):

Hi Udo, and the compliments of the day to you.
I hope that you are well and still waking the village up at 4am with Prussian marching music  .
I must say that they all look pretty good to me.

I've no personal knowledge of any of these units but from their photo's pages they all look pretty decent.

I like the wheeling by platoons to form line and the 'old style' bayonet advance at the end.

Any Cavalry going? Might be worth kitting out for such a significant event.

I believe discussions about horses are ongoing.
Udo should be able to provide the most recent information.

Did Dave B say the most excellent 10thD were going?

Young men have often been ruined through owning horses, or through backing them, but never through riding them: unless of course they break their necks, which, taken at a gallop, is a very good death to die
