The Petrograd Womens' Battalion of Death

Post by czartank »

Last Saturday, 8th July, marked the 89th anniversary of the 1st succesfull action by an all female combat unit in the 20th Century.

At Kovno the 1st Petrograd Womens' Battalion of death took 3 lines of German trenches and 200 prisoners for the loss of 6 dead and 30 wounded.

The 1914-21 Society is hoping to stage a re-enactment of this attack next year on the 90th Anniversary and is looking for help for any female Re-enactors who may be interested.

Please contact me by pm if you would like to take part in this event.

We already have one member who lives in the Netherlands- she regularly travels to the UK for events.

don't worry about the hair; photos show that, by the time they had gone to the front, the Womens' hair had grown back again.
