I'm about to start voluteering at a local National Trust property, whose focus is mainly mid-17th century (one of the houses Charles II hid in after the Battle of Worcester), and have been asked to do different things around the property, mostly talking to the visitors while in costume. I know that other volunteers do similar things, but I also know the standard of the costume...and would prefer to do things a bit more authentically!
Currently, most of my living history kit is mid-eighteenth century. I'm intending to make something more suitable for the 1650s as soon as I can (as long as I can do it without spending a fortune), but does anyone know if simple (and temporary) things could be done to 1740s things to make do for the time being?
Finally, can anyone suggest a reliable source for clothing patterns and other info for this period? I don't like to go spending the money - or worse, giving information to visitors - and getting it wrong!
Thanks all!
