Late 17th c groups
Are there any groups covering the later part of the 17th century in the UK? I'm interested in the later Covenanters and the pitchfork rebellion, anyone doing these periods?

Bonaventure do some maritime stuff from the late 17thC, and 17thCentury Life and Times I know do 1670s.
But yes, it's a much under-done period.

Hi Alan,
Some of Frasers and O'Cahan's have Dumbarton's kit as well (fdrom the SK's Monmouth events) and are planning on doing some stuff up in Scotland in the coming years - Dunkeld and Killiekrankie were talked about at any rate.

Young men have often been ruined through owning horses, or through backing them, but never through riding them: unless of course they break their necks, which, taken at a gallop, is a very good death to die

I'm very interested in this period, I've got later 17th century lowland kit, Dumbartons uniform and I've been trying to get a renactment of Dunkeld going.
Its a much neglected period.

Musteteer and minister with Frasers Dragoones SK, lowlander with Lace Wars, mercenary with Thirty Years War artillery unit Hortus Bellicus. Been in re-enactment since 1986 which allows me to indulge my fetish for uniforms and facial hair.

Yar. Billy Orange landed almost literally on my doorstep (about 30 yards from my door) and the French landed a force at Teignmouth a dozen or so miles away in 1692, but there just isn't the scope for exploiting those events

So don't forget if you are going to Loseley that their is a 1685 battle going on over two days there. I keep meaning to drop Lindsay and Willie a line. The Meenister wrote:I'm very interested in this period, I've got later 17th century lowland kit, Dumbartons uniform and I've been trying to get a renactment of Dunkeld going.

I've been reading up on it (largely because of a new wargame I've got that's set in the period) and I've got admit that I'd really like to do it, possibly as a covenanter. The Meenister wrote:I'm very interested in this period, I've got later 17th century lowland kit, Dumbartons uniform and I've been trying to get a renactment of Dunkeld going.

The French pikeman in classical armour are particularly fine

It's also worth pointing out that international events have been going on for the WSS battles.
Malplaquet is on this year (1709 - 2009), Almansa (Spain) was on last month, Oudenarde is to be repeated.
These events are generally open to uniform from the last quarter of the 17th century to about 1715.

Me too, me too
I have plenty of covenant civilian and highland kit for late 17thC but not much for the Cameronian/Redcoat side of things. The last time we wore that kit was the Real Tartan Army filming for Loudouns at Douglas in 2002.
http://www.scotwars.com/gallery/Film%20 ... s/0394.htm
The SK regiments that do this period look pretty damned good to my untrained eye and are among the best in the society. Don't know if you can join without being in the SK though.
This could also be an interesting period to portray in the run up to the 300th anniversary of the '15 and an antidote to all the Waterloo stuff that'll be going on then........eh Andy???
Cheers
Neil

Battle of Preston - the main drag and market place would be ideal for a "street fight" event! This could also be an interesting period to portray in the run up to the 300th anniversary of the '15 and an antidote to all the Waterloo stuff that'll be going on then........eh Andy???
Wilkes and Liberty, Wilkes and the Forty Five

There was a story about them in a copy of Skirmish, but, sadly, putting "Boyne" and "re-enactment" gets you all sorts of dodgy political groups.steve stanley wrote:Yes,I've seen picture of a Boyne event.....Urban myth said they couldn't actually fight for PC reasons...just L/H.........
