As promised, feedback from NTS on next year's event.

The dates are not yet set for Bannockburn 2008 but Alison is meeting with the Director of Visitor Services in the next couple of weeks and will let us know as soon as she knows the dates for 2008.

In my reply to her I let her know that there would be increased attendance at Lanark from English re-enactment groups (due to cancellations) and therefore a good opportunity to meet them face-to-face and make contacts.

Will keep you posted if I hear anything further.

:)

I wrote off the the NTS back in July asking about the battle next year and making the point that it has to be decided now as to what is happening, in order to ensure good attendance of re-enactors etc etc.

I recieved a reply yesterday which says that the trust hopes to redevelop the site in the years up to 2014, and expect to make a decision regarding the 2008 event by mid-September.

I still think this is a bit late, but they do seem to be paying attention.

Have just got off the phone to NTS, they are saying that there is NO Battle of Bannockburn this year. Whether this will be true or changed in the near future remains to be seen.

Yes, that matches the complete lack of communication I have had.
I reckon 2011 is the latest we can restart the re-enactment so as to have it in good shape for 2014.

By 'good shape' I take it that you mean a lack of people at it looking like the Wild Man of Borneo swathed in tartan?
