How can we help?As far as the tartan rule goes I am going to make every effort to enforce the no tartan but could I ask you and the reenactors to help me with this?
Fair enough stupid questioning is unhelpful. But it would save 20+ odd people asking the same set of questions if there was one set of answers in a public forum.Ian Macintyre wrote:I think this much public questioning is unhelpful.
Ah well. Nothing slippery, I was just going to suggest that it might be an idea to ask (off list) someone with experience in event organising *cough* Paul Murphy *cough* if he'd be kind enough to list the issues that need to be explicitely handled or delegated.
Was it constructed of provenancable fabric, and fully hand stitched?jim-m wrote:I saw Mike Newcomen at an Edinburgh Festival event at the castle. I have only met him once previously, but had hoped to speak to him about Bannockburn, but didn't get a chance to as he was walking about with his hand up a dogs bum (ok the dog was a puppet but it sounds good).
We'e a one day event next month if you're interested?Colin MacDonald wrote:It's the effect of having an enforced sabbatical season. Due to a particularly bothersome year of domestic and work related shennanigans, I haven't made it to a single event this year, sadly not even Lanark, which I was dribbling over with anticipation. I'm even - and don't let this get around - wondering if it's actually possible to own, you know, too much reenactment gear.
It seems that the further that you get from the coal face, the dafter the whole exercise appears. When it comes down to it, we're just playing dress up and having a lark, however much we wrap it up in talk about serious research into such and such, and recreating so and so lost art. We're just serious about a pleasurable but essentially frivilous pursuit.
Actually, I think I'm almost at the point where I could hug a McHalford. Has anyone got one handy to test the hypothesis, or have they gone extinct while I was looking the other way?
And alsoNTS wrote:My name is Alison Corley and I am the property manager for Bannockburn. The people writing the scripts etc will be Robert Ballantyne and Michael Newcomen.
Paul thanks for the information and I will certainly look at the information and balance it with the trust's insurance requirements.
Thanks again,
Alison

Note that this is an old press release, but gives details of one of the people involved.
Their web page:

"Scotland's leading living history company" - I assume the key word here is "company", rather than "society".
Their experience of running large events in the past isn't stated - perhaps they'd like to join this forum and help with answering some of the questions?
Paul.
Watching avidly. Has anyone heard any updates on this year's event?NTS's web site wrote: NTS is delighted to announce that the Battle of Bannockburn 2007 will take place on Saturday the 23rd and Sunday the 24th of June (693 years to the day since the original battle was fought!). I suppose an email to NTS might be in order.Colin MacDonald wrote:Bump.
