In Thom Richardsons superb Tower Armoury inventories thesis...
1351-3 from John of Cologne, Kings Armourer, 1,040 pavises painted white with an escutcheon of the Kings arms in the centre of each under a garter in blue and 100 pavises of burnished silver gilt with the kings arms in the centre of each under a garter, one pavise of the kings arms quarterly.

When's the thesis from? The BRitish LIbrary Ethos system might have it, and then all you need to do is register and you can download lots of interesting PhD's from around Britain in the last century or so.
