A couple of questions about black armour

Postby Arma » Tue Jan 13, 2015 6:05 pm

I have two questions that I would like answers to, if anyone here can help me I would be very appreciative :)

1. I have a breastplate that I am looking to paint black. What type of paint should I use? Was this done in and around the 15th century?

2. I am also looking to purchase a black gambeson/padded jack. Were gambesons of this colour in use in the 15th century? If not, were brown ones used?

Thanks in advance!

Black armour has been discussed before.
I would imagine that the majority of gambesons are in unbleached linen and will acquire their own particular hue over time. I doubt if a black gambeson would hide the muck and may very enhance the grim.
