Thinking of replacing my buckler, but before I do, what would have been the average weight and diameter of a buckler for say, the period of the Hundred Years War? Just wanting to get something that is authentic.

Cant recall one of that period surviving in a condition that would allow accurate measurements to be made. Looking at them pictorially I'd say you can have a wide range of sizes and for weight, well thats down to the material used of course so depends what sort of thing you are doing with it. Some are wood and leather, some metal. Some are single skin, some have an additional layer on the boss, some have extra bar on the edges, etc etc. Its a pretty broad church. Not that I'm suggesting you use a church as a handy portable defensive item.

As long as its not spun with a nasty bit of modern bar or door handle to hold on to the world is your oyster...

Thanks for the answers Mark. I hadn't actually seen that item on ebay but you're right - it even looks cheesy!
