Greetings

I am interested in extant mid-to-late 14th century cannons.
Supposedly these would have shorter but wider barrels and no wheels on mounting.
Also, is there a cannon maker in UK who makes good replicas of such cannons?

Thanks
skorn

Hi

I created a web page looking at medieval cannon up to around 1400

http://www.themcs.org/weaponry/cannon/cannon.htm

I hope it may be of some use.

Regards

Graham

Mainmast Conservation or The Star Gun Company could probably make you one. I hope you have deep pockets.

I'll stick my neck out and say that there are no surviving 14th century 'field gun' style cannon.

There's the loshult gun which is a sort of 1" bore mini-cannon, and there are some pretty big pole guns, but no actual field cannon.

There are several illustrations to go at, going from vase shaped guns at the start of the 14th, to pictures of simple iron tubes with bands, propped up on simple timber trestle frames that look like they could have been constructed on site at the end.

there is some good info in this book: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Artillery-Burgu ... 1843831627

Gary of Derbyshire Small Arms had a replica Loshult gun on his stand at TORM. He told me it had been cast (bronze) by a school as an exercise and he had drilled it and had it proofed for them. No idea what it would have cost and if the school would be willing to make another but you could try talking to Gary. He did offer to put me in touch but we just bought our second cannon in a year so lovely though it was...
