knights hospitallers question

Post by Nick »

When not in a combat role knights Hospitaller have as part of their dress code a biretta - a white skull cap of wool or felt. this seems to start off as white but by the later 14th century seems to have become a black felt beret - can anyone tell me when the change over occurs - assuming that the information I have is right in the first place of course! :)

In the 14th century their entire getup changed the main difference being a shift from black to red, when they adopted st john, i dont know about head wear but the knights hospitalier still exist as a christian order doing charity work, they are under some spanish prince, they do have a website, maybe they might have an answer for you :)
