Hi All
It always seems like I am picking your brains but your all so helpful, so here I go again.
Can anyone tell me if ladies in the 13th Century wore separate hoods for cloaks as in not attached to the cloak.
I've been asked by 1 of our members and have looked it up but cant seem to find anything.
Here's hoping :)

Separate. In fact I'd hesitate to say that women wore hoods at all. I don't remember seeing any women wearing hoods in any 13c manuscripts.

I have seen cloaks lifted up over the head though but only during religious observances

:$ I couldn't possibly comment on the previous posting . . . this question was raised recently about women in the late 12th century and again there is no evidence for them wearing hoods, only one image from the 1180s which is likely a woman with the back part of her cloak raised over her head, looking something like a hood. Otherwise ordinary veils and headscarves seem to do the job.

From another thread in this section:
So yes, at least one illustration showing a woman a (separate) hood in 13 Century.

'till whispers fill the tower of memory...
