Actually the colour scheme is red for the enemy's blood. But also provision for blue royal blood
Not sure re the yellow yet -- unless someone is jaundiced!

Yes, it certainly is a chicken, well Hen really - a hen upon a hill, so Henneberg.
If you've seen the Osprey Publishing book on the Teutonic Knights, there's a painting by Graham Turner of a knight in full harness, so I'm getting pieces of that made up (though blued) and as that character was from Henneberg Romhild and as I used to keep hens in the back garden which looked remarkably similar; well you get the idea.
My interest in re-enactment is pretty shallow. Armour.
I think the german/gothic style is absolutely the best. Just need to make sure I don't put on any weight before it's finished...
Presently, in my far from complete kit, I get invites to local events. No swordplay, purely display, smile at the punters and hope they're not too scared to chats-a-bitsy. Hope to get more mainstream eventually, with my brother and a few friends.

On our jacks we wear the Milano House of Sforza crest on our left arm, as we would have been a mercenary household plying our trade around Europe after the Hundred Years War, and an IHS applique as a 'lucky charm' on our right:

The applique is sewn on roughly, as it's supposed to look like it was done by the soldier the jack belongs to, to bring them luck. Well, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!
