weaving

Postby DeMeer » Sun Oct 17, 2010 8:38 pm

Hi,
One of our members is wanting to make a cloak for living history but the cloth she has seen is of 2 colours. It is a cream woven with a brown. Would peasants have had cloth that was of 2 colours in the 13th Century?
Would be very grateful if anyone can point me in the right directon or even better answer the question for me :)

if its not a complex weave or exotic dyes that should be fine, if you look in the Museum of London 'Textiles and Clothing' book there are I think several examples of cloth with warp and weft in different shades, though you;d need to check the book to be certain of the date, I don't have it in front of me right now.
