Padded jacks

Post by Tallphil84 »

I'm in the market for a custom padded jack for mid to late 15th century. the main problem with the off the peg ones I see at shows and on line is if they are big enough in the shoulder they are always to big in the body (uncomfortable under armour) often to short and baggy in the sleeve. can anyone recomend which suppliers and traders to look at.

Jackie Phillips of Cloak'd and Dagger'd makes handmade jacks from £99.

You can PM her on here, or there's an e-mail address and phone number on the contact page of her website.
If you'd like to meet her to be measured, she'll be at TORM in a fortnight (as will Tuppence, as it happens).

These chaps were at the ILHF with some very nice off the peg jacques.

They are machine done but you can get hand sewn ones if you want to pony up the cash. Having tried one on at the market and always having the problem of big shoulders and a more narrow waist I was very impressed with the fit and that as just off the peg. Order off the website and they will make to measure.

If you're wearing it under armour, do you want a padded jack or an arming doublet? If you're going for custom stuff, make sure that you order the right thing (though I suspect that both 2d and Jackie will make sure what you want if for before they take your money).

Best wishes.

for next year I'll be using with a placard but I also intend to use for some HEMA work which some of my freinds are staring to do, so I want a fairly stiff one.

A jack then. I just have a bee in my bonnet about re-enactors wearing jacks under their plate and then looking like the Mitchelin man! Good luck with it.

There’s a country in Europe where they treat their ex soldiers with pride no waits for medical treatment after injuries received during service, no amensia from the government. Cant for the life of me recall where it is but I know exactly where it is not.
