Jack chains

Post by Tod »

I'm thinking of having a go at making my own. I've got a few pictures (drawings) but has any one seen or know where there are any originals, or pictures of?
What thickness should they be?
Any other info would be gratefully recieved.

Hi Tod

If you do a Google search on "the Martyrdom of St. Ursula" this is a late Medieval painting by Hans Memling, you will see a foot soldier wearing a padded Jack with Jack-chains attached to the sleeves.

Also, if my memory searves me right - there is another contemporary painting of two Medieval archers shooting at a nearby ship full of people, I believe one of the archers is wearing jack-chains. Damn! can't remember the name of this painting though - sorry.

I know they're not always the best resource, but one of the appropriate Opsreys has them in, possibly the medieval archer one.

I think Nige said that there was a set in Hexham Gaol?

There was a thread on it in the Medieval section on CF.
