Calling the Saville historian.

I've been reading the history of the Savilles on their website and it mentions a bit of a clash on Sircote Moor nr Halifax. They were aided by the Stansfield family against the Pilkingtons.
I'm very curious to know if what info you came cross or where it was in relation to the Stansfields.
Chris (who is married to a Stansfield from over that way)

As far as I remember, and I think he gave me a copy of the original, it came from the Savile archives held by Nottingham Council. Specifically it came from a series of documents drawn up prosecuting those involved for lawless behaviour. I'll see if I can find his work (It was done for his thesis in Medieval History).

That would be fantastic
Ive also found mention of the family name (family history printed in 1800's with lots of info from the college of heralds) as being landed and and had dealings with the Saville family, but I don't know which branch.

You still have to work from the known to the unknown though - start with the living and go back, verifying each generation with the original documentation. Most surnames have more than one origin
(Sorrysorrysorry can't help myself, family history's a tragic addicton and it's gone beyond my control...)
