Hi Templar,
Its hard to see but if this hat has four corners it is similar to a priests 'Barrete' a fore-runner of the beret. Catholic priests wear a barrete with a pompom on but this is a later addition. See pic. Early medieval scholastic monks also wore the Barrete.

I started making this kit about a year ago but since I gave up smoking I have been slowly putting on the pounds....every time a make a piece of kit another bit has gotten too small! Knowing my luck if I make things over sized I will start to lose weight and....

After seeing Dennis Havlenas home made hurdy gurdy on Youtube I have got a hankering to have a go myself. At an antique fair last weekend I picked up a cheap guitar with a broken machine head.
