I'm in image 0049 on the left holding the lochaber axe. Asides from making a set of hose and cutting off the red mohawk any constructive criticism from early 14th century costume buffs would be much appreciated :)

Why do we re-enact?

Quite simply, I got to thinking about why do we do re-enactments? It's fun, it's a show for the public, it's envolves learning skills, learning history, educating people in history etc... Why is showing people history so important? What is that we are giving them? or is it not about the public, what...

Over a pint the other night asking where he got it done, where the ink came from etc, one of my "friends" with a woad tatoo admitted he was talking s**t and it was normal dark blue ink, I was naturally most disappointed I picked up a cheap boar skin at Warwick TORM that apparently had been used in a...

Yes I believe shipping is much the most carbon efficient transport however bear i mind that an item shipped travels like this: 1. 5000km by sea 2. From the port to the business by lorry 3. From the business to the customer by lorry. Whereas the local made product goes: 1. From the forge/workshop to ...

I have a GDFB helmet, I'd rate it 10/10.

India has a much greater base of craftsmen than this country, we could learn a great deal from them.

I am a little dubious about the carbon footprint of shipping something than ca be made locally across the entire globe just to save me some £££.

Dom, afraid it's teh same here - references to them in Scotland are drawing a blank - that's not to say that none were used, but it should be noted that Scottish Chroniclers had a habit of noting any exemption from the norm (such as the observance of a man wearing a plaid in 1530). Would some one h...

Clan Mcshortbread would be unable to do anything in public without repeatedly stating that they are just having some fun and it is not historically accurate. Or something like that. They certainly shouldnt get into schools, or historic properties. That would help reduce their exposure. Who are the ...

bardiches, can anyone gave me a history?

hey there. I've been offered a bardiche by one of my mates and I'm tempted to buy but though I've seen them around they look a little...well ... Klingon to be honest. I work in performing arts and can sympathise with him. He has a market and exploits that, but he is not responsible for it.

What are those others like on the Mile? Like Mary Kings close? I've never been but I always see the folk dressed up handing out fliers.

Any one else seen that bloke near Edinburgh castle dressed up like a poor extra from that film telling the Yanks 'that's how it really was'. Oh how I laughed... One of my favourite re-enactment moments so far was being charged by knights. It's a movie moment, when you can really believe that you are transported into the past. :D

um... a couple of my friends have woad tatoos. It looks great, a nice dark blue colour and apparently has anti-septic qualities that lend it to tatooing.

I agree, it absolutely sucks as body paint.
