Re: Would like to get into Tudor re-enacting..where to start

If you fancy early Tudor then Armet may be able to help. We formed two years ago to work on the Flodden 1513 project with the intention of doing events after the anniversary last year. We have a basic web site www.16thcentury.co.uk but it may be better to drop me an email with your number and I'll r...

Re: Double wrap Sword belts - any evidence?

I've had a good look though all my books and can't find any pictures that I could say 100% show a double wrap belt. Plenty that don't though.

Re: Gown Hem Hook - 1500s

Over the last few years we looked at lot of early Tudor pictures and I don't remember anything like that. Firstly the artist got the year wrong (not c1500). Next and this is practical thing, if you had a loop on the hem wouldn't it take too long to find? Maybe its some sort of fashion statement but ...

Re: Double wrap Sword belts - any evidence?

I've made them but only to customers requests. They are a pain to put on and I found they self adjusted as there is a lot of leather in them. But the customers have been happy - most if not all were collectors rather than re-enactors. The biggest problem I've found with single sword belts is wearing...

Angie is my other half, we have a good kit reference and IMO very good kit but we are trying to compile images and information. In 30 iofdd years I've found a lot of (bad) speculation and little good primary source, thats what we are looking for.

TBH they are most likely wrong both the leather bike jeans and the ones worn on TV. You'd be better sticking to fabric ones. Phil the Grips is the man to ask about this sort of thing.

Re: Tarot

I'm going to be honest and tell you I banned tarrot readers from my events. The first was an 18th century event and there was no way it fitted with anything we were doing and I couldn't find any historical reference, nor could it be supplied. The second was at my Flodden event this year, again I ban...

I didn't take any and the samples are somewhere at the back of my lockup. As it was I didn't paint all of my armour as I ran out of time before the Flodden events.

I've had to fill in supplier forms with almost every big organisation including TV and film companies. As said above if you do the right paperwork it should all sort itself out. However make sure you get paid what they said you would get paid. I don't know who it works but somehow they check through...

Re: Quick question regarding pitch fee's, refunds etc

I'm still not sure if this is the place to put negative comments. Not so long ago we had the TORM V NLHF row and then it came up every time the markets were getting close. The result was that the moderators had to go on "watch". That got all very heated with solicitors getting involved. We decided w...

Re: Quick question regarding pitch fee's, refunds etc

I can't say why, I just know I wouldn't reply as I feel it would be unprofessional, but that's just my opinion. As I said you can ring me if you like.
The only thing I would add is that I think more people saw the sign that was put up than any that would have been placed on a table.

Suzie/Martin I'm not going to get ito any more detail on this, I offered my opinion on what I had read based on my experiences. I don't know and don't really want to know what communication you had with the event mananger. I can only say what I think based on what you have written. I would add that on here over the years the moderators including me have deleted off and removed threads that have been negative towards traders,...

Re: Quick question regarding pitch fee's, refunds etc

It's fair to say a lot of people know what market you are talking about, what happened to Suzie and that you told the event manager you wouldn't be going. Also a lot of people have seen your posts on Facebook. Because of the short notice you wouldn't get refund. The event manager can use any unused ...

Re: The Farm goes back to Tudor Times

By contrast, I am not an expert but have trouble thinking of any major differences between the mid 17th C and 1500 in terms of day to day farm work. There'd been more specialist breeding of animals, and I think by the 17th century most people knew more about the importance of drainage and feeding t...

Dig a hole, throw them in the hole, dig them up next season. But like hanging them outside prepare for them to go rock hard or mouldy. Much like most re-enactors.
