The problem with any form of "Union" is that it has to have a formal legal structure to have any teeth. And that means getting enough traders to agree on exactly what they do and do not want. Re-arrange the phrase "cats herding like". But even if it was possible to do so, it's powers would be very l...

My ha'porth? It's one of those ideas where everyones opinion is right, even where they all differ! But it is "location, location, location"! IMHO, anywhere within 200 miles of Birmingham will be a complete non-starter as we have two well established major markets each running there twice a year. Tha...

A Vacant Chair

Thought that I'd better post this here before all sorts of rumours start appearing. This year I've decided not to stand for re-election as Chairman of the Historic Traders branch of the NMTF. Why? When we started the branch running in August 2001 it was never the intention that we would have the sam...

We're going as well -and it's the first time we've taken the stall outside of the UK although we've been meaning to for years!
We've booked into the Campanile and are staying over Sunday night as well, as I don't fancy the drive back that evening.

Stocking Fillers

This certainly looks like it might work So..... I suggest everyone looks at their stock and works out how many items could be sold at (say) under £4.00. You would need to have quite a few in stock, or be able to produce them quickly. Then we make a list of exactly what collectively we can offer. Onc...

Martin, There is an old saying, "a gift demands a gift". Financial aid, grants etc etc are very difficult to get -and almost invariably have strings attatched. Even the Tooth Fairy has to be given something back in return for her money. To be honest, I suspect that (like myself), you are unemployabl...

The very simple way that I've been told (and use) is by touch. Real notes have a very slightly embossed area over the "Bank of England" wording on the top. Its a very quick way of subtly checking each one. If the bank note "feels" wrong -then it just well might be! Having said that, in over 35 years...

Another FREE trading event

Some of you may already know of this one, but the organiser has asked me to post this up for her: We are planning to stage a Medieval Market in the churchyard to the rear of The Canterbury Tales on Saturday, 31st May between 11.00am – 4.00pm as you are probably aware. The reason it is just a day eve...

There are a lot of potential problems here. The NMTF insurance is fine for "product liability" if you have made it yourself. We've tested that one. But there could potentially be a problem with the resale value of stock that you have made yourself. In the case of loss you could cetainly claim the va...

I'll be seeing Jim tomorrow, so I'll try and find out who he is/was with. One simple question. What about insence? We burn it all the time, and it gives off more smoke than the odd ciggy. We are fast becoming a great granny state not just a nanny one. One simple answer. It' perfectly legal. See http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/ld200506/ldhansrd/vo060420/text/6042...
