Excellent Reference Material

For those seeking source material for the mediaeval period (or a Christmas idea for a re-enactor), might I recommend 3 tomes by Monsieur Eugene Viollet-Le-Duc: "Armes Medievales", "Le Mobilier Medieval" and "Le Costume Medieval". Somewhat expensive, and available in French only it appears, but magni...

Chain mail infills for plate armour

I am currently seeking chain mail protection (flat ring, riveted or otherwise) for the exposed areas beneath my late C15 plate armour: voiders for under arms, neck collar-piece and shorts (not skirt) for the nether region.

Can anyone advise whom I might contact to make these?

Rex Splendidus, Aberdeen August 2007

Some photographs from the re-enactment held in Aberdeen city centre celebrating the visit to the city in 1507 by King James IV and his 16 year-old wife, Margaret Tudor, sister of Henry VIII. James was one of Scotland's most successful kings with a modern army and navy, but sadly he was to perish wit...

Banquet table settings

Many thanks to all who have given advice: the banquet went well after we got hold of reasonably-priced steak knives and wooden spoons. We will probably make it down from Scotland to TORM, where we hope to make further additions to our banquet settings. I am thankful for and impressed by the advice w...

Sally Your ideas sound good as we are not dealing with high authenticity on this occasion. Can you give me the links to the birch spoon and steak knives sites, please? I am assuming the steak knives are £2.50 each per dozen? Alas, we in Aberdeen are not graced with an IKEA yet (actually it is not a ...

Thank you for your replies, Sally and Graham. We are expecting about 70-80 guests, and will need bowl and plate (presumably wooden); spoon and knife; goblet. We know we can get trenchers made at a reasonable price locally, as we have done this before, and this adds a nice touch for those who have ne...
