Got me a couple of the Quatermasterie needles and a dozen pins at TORM. The needles are superbe, very fine and with a nice smooth eye that doesn't abrade the thread, just finished buttonholing an 18thC workshirt with one. The pins are very well made too, not cheap but top quality.

Tar or thinned bitumen paint, but it stinks and takes ages to cure. Talk to Kittyhats they've done some tarred titfers albeit later ones.
